Hotel Q & A. Click on question!
What hotel are we staying at and why?
- We chose the Peachtree Westin hotel which is a 4-star hotel that usually command up to $300.00 per night. We were able to negotiate a stellar rate of $149.00 per night. Not only does this hotel create a presence in the skyline of Atlanta, but it also offes us an opportunity to bring YOU, our guest, to the most centralized part of Atlanta. Peachtree Street is a main street in Atlanta and puts us within walking distance to many of Atlanta's attractions.
Is there a fee for parking?
- Yes. there is a fee for parking. We suggest that our driving guests use valet parking at $23.00 per day as it wiall allow you to come and go as often as needed during your stay without having to pay additional fees. If you choose not to drive many of our chosen destinations are easily obtained via the public transportion (MARTA).
Are there any smoking rooms?
- No. This hotel is a smoke free zone. A couple years ago Atlanta passed an ordinance that banned smoking in many public places. While we do realize that this may be an inconvenience to some people. It was unavoidable. Please be aware that should you choose to smoke in your room despite the no smoking rule. You will be charged an additional $200.00 by the hotel.
Are all the rooms 2 double beds?
- No they are not, which means that if you intend to have a roommate or desire two double beds you need to act fast. There is a major convention in town that week and room availability is sparse in the area. It was difficult to request and receive as many double beds as we were able to get. Be cognizant of your needs and make your reservations early.
What is near the hotel or within walking distance?
- Everything! The infamous Underground is within walking distance as well as the MARTA train station, Hard Rock Cafe, Peachtree Center Shopping area, Centennial Park. Agatha's Murder Mystery Dinner theatre, Hooters, Dailey's restuarant and much much more. You will be staying in central downtown Atlanta. It doesn't get any better then this.
Is there a pool or fitness center?
- Yes there is a pool with a retractable roof on the 11th floor. A fitness center is also provided by the hotel free of charge as well.
Is there any place to eat in the hotel?
- Absolutely! The Peachtree Westin has 74 floors. On the 74th floor is the infamous Sundial Restuarant. The Sundial provides award winning meals that can be a little weighty on the budget, but is an experience that you will surely enjoy. The restuarant rotates as you dine and provides a spectacular view of Atlanta and allows you to see it from a full 360 degrees while you enjoy your meal. The hotel also has a Starbucks on premise. A cafe that offers a breakfast buffet and a couple of bars to gather and drink. This hotel is large and you will feel as though it is a city within the city.
At $149.00 this seems to be an expensive stay.
- We do understand your concerns, but you need to keep in mind that Atlanta is a major metropolitan city and costs will be a little higher. We do offer you choices of arranging for a roommate to help defray the costs. POCSN still offers to refund one lucky person's registration fees. This is a contest that is given each year at every event. You are automatically put into the drawing when you pay your registration fee. That $75.00 will help to defray a few costs as well. In addition to that POCAtlanta made a schedule that the registration fees cover enough of the events that your out of pocket expenses will be minimal. Your registration fee will offer you 2 free continental breakfast, entrance to the pajama jam, the "From Civil War to Civil Rights" tour, 3 course meal on Saturday night at Dailey's Restuarant, Hospitality room snacks, entry into our raffle drawings and bowling (with the exception of shoes which will be $4.00). That's quite a full schedule for your registration fee.
